colposcopy while pregnant?

My initial Pap smear after finding out I was pregnant came back atypical. I’ve never had anything but normal Pap smears before this. Doctor says I need a colposcopy around 28 weeks (I’m currently 21 weeks). Anyone had this procedure done while pregnant?

Why did your doctor suggest a colonoscopy for an abnormal PAP?

The colposcopy is just to look at the abnormal cells ask if your doctor plans to take a biopsy as well. I've had this before and needed a LEEP. I personally am okay with the colposcopy but I told my doctor I would not allow a LEEP during the pregnancy. Other than the LEEP I think it's good to let the doctor monitor the abnormalities so you can make a quick decision after the pregnancy on how to treat. The pregnancy could make it worse or it could resolve on it's own depending on how advanced the abnormality is. So it's a good idea to monitor the situation. But if you had a regular pap done last year with no abnormal results I wouldnt feel too worried about rushing to treat. My doctor says it takes in most cases years to progress to the point of cancer. But I would do research and do what's best for you and talk with the doctor about concerns.

It’s a biopsy of cells of the cervix. I’ve had one before it’s not as bad as it seems. I was going to have one during my first pregnancy. I found out I was pregnant at the doctors office the same day of the procedure. Instead of taking any cell samples of my cervix, the doctor just used the scope to take pics to look for abnormal cells. 3 years later and my Paps are normal again, of course this was after having a LEEP procedure done.

I didn’t have it done while pregnant, but it is super uncomfortable. Can you wait until after you deliver? That’s what I would do..
