Is the Diva Cup Worth The Hype
Ive decided to try out the diva cup for the first time ever and am clearly just an amateur so make sure you thoroughly read the instructions!
Im a 20 year old virgin and use super tampons EXCLUSIVELY because im a VERY heavy bleeder and i feel like they do a better job for what i need (with panty liner backups and hourly changes required)
So ive decided to go this week only using the diva cup and documenting my journey here by updating this post at the end of each day for the next week. I thought maybe some of my information could help other heavy bleeders make the decision to swap to a much cheaper period life so here it goes
Day 1 (Weds 03/04/19): inserting it for the first time was a bit of a struggle but just like with a tampon you can feel when its not in right because if you feel it at all then its probably in wrong, i also didnt feel it pop open inside me which was surprising. I walked around very self conscious and concerned i was going to leak so i also wore a pad to be safe. Now for the moment everyone always wants to know about, cleaning it out, today i was lucky enough to be at home and honestly it wasnt as gross as i thought and there definitely wasnt as much blood as i thought, barely anything in there but day 3 will be the real test. Then i cleaned it using a specific feminine wash that wont upset the delicate ph balance and popped it back in.
A little note: if its even a little bit wet when you re insert it, it wont pop open inside you so make sure its fully dry and correctly inserted! Now to get some sleep and prepare for day 2......a full day shift at work....wish me luck!!
Day 2 (Thurs 04/04/19): My first night with the cup went great, not only did i not leak but i didnt have to wake up and change a pad in the middle of the night or run to the bathroom in the morning because the blood rushes to your lower half. Today was my first work day with the cup and wow, not having to worry about what time it is and needing to change a tampon is so great and when you go to the bathroom you dont have to remember to sneak any sanitary products with you. I did end up emptying it on my lunch break because im paranoid haha but it was nowhere near full so I definitely didnt need to. Tomorrow i will be working again on the most heavy day of my cycle so we will see how that goes!
Day 3 (Fri 05/04/19): Last night was perfectly fine so not much to really report on with that. Today i felt like i was going to leak so at about 11am i checked it and lucky i did because it was half full, i probably could have lasted longer but not by much. Moral to that story is i think the more you use it and learn your cycle in this way it will be easier, just like with tampons and pads you know what days you can wear one for longer and what days you cant risk it. Honestly i thought i leaked more on a typical day three but turns out its actually not much which for some reason makes me feel better about it haha all in all it was a good day, so lets hope nothing bad happens for my next couple days!
Day 4 (Sat 06/04/19): Last night i had a good night sleep and woke up with no leaking. Today i didnt have work so i was helping my roommates move in, it was a lighter day as it seems to be my last day and i didnt check the cup for the entire day. I didnt leak at all and it was so good to just be able to hang out without worrying about what time it is and if i need to go to the bathroom.
Conclusion: Im sold on the cup, i can safely say that i love this thing so much, as someone who spends a minimum of $40AUD every period i really appreciate this invention so much! I highly recommend trying this!
