Beneficial or harmful?

Why do you think allowing the genetic engineering of babies to be a common medical service, would be beneficial or harmful to the human race?

In 10-20 years when there are more studies and science has evolved more and we know the side effects of tweaking things then  Yes I would 100% do it but only to make sure my child never got cancer so they took out the BRCA gene for instance. 
I wouldn’t mess around with anything else though 
Not sex eye colour hair colour things like that are crossing to boundaries and you aren’t doing it to save your child your doing it because your superficial

As precise as the science is, there can still be downstream or off target effects that nobody predicted, so no, I don't think it's a good idea.

I think it's good and bad.. 
Good: it can help raise life expectancy, it can help reduce diseases, it can help biologist and keep us up to date with modern technology, it can reduce hereditary medical conditions, it can create a healthy life for children, parents set their own limits of how far they are willing to to take it.
Bad: it's not perfect, it's not 100% safe, if done incorrectly it can terminate an embryo, parents may use it for superficial purposes, could create a gap in society, people would end up looking fairly similar, it's expensive and wouldnt be an available option for most parents. 
That being said, you have to take the good with the bad..and this is where modern technology is at.. and this is where a parent has to make a choice.. are they doing it for superficial reasons or health reasons? Is it for the greater good? Everyone wants a perfect baby.. no parent wants to have a child suffer from things out of our control, every parent wants a smart, beautiful, healthy child.. but at what cost are we willing to risk it for?

to the babies and population; great. to the human race? we’re fucked. you would create genetically superior people vs the genetically weak. we are humans, we are flawed, and it would cause a HUGE problem

Harmful!!!  One the gene pools needs to stay Random. Two of you start what going to be the laws. Is someone with more money going to be able to do more? Three. I think for the most part nature knows what it’s doing. 
That said would it be nice to say will your child could have cancer we can get rid of that gene sure. But i really think no one should be able to play “god”.
