Waking to eat?

Ashley

My girl is 3 weeks old and she eats pretty well. We make her 4 oz bottles and she feeds on demand most of the time it's every 3 hours but sometimes she will stay asleep should I wake her after 4 hours or is it okay to let her sleep? She doesn't do it often but sometimes I have to wake her. Just wanted some opinions on it.

I always wake my LO during the day to eat but let him sleep as long as he wants at night. He eats every 3 hours during the day and now sleeps from 830pm-730am without waking.

It’s my understanding you should only wake a baby to eat if they are born low birthweight. My twins were born at 36 weeks weighing 4lbs 13oz. They only had to be woke up until their due date or if they weren’t gaining. They had no problems gaining so we only needed to do it until their due date and even then they still woke up less than every 4 hours so we never really had to.

If they are over their birthweight, they can sleep. Out hospital and ped told us we never needed to wake our son, but most organizations recommend that once they are over their birthweight to let them sleep
