My family refuses to let me get my drivers permit. I’m going to be 18 next month, and for the past 2 years they have not let me get my permit. There reason is because “I’m not ready” which I understand but it’s embarrassing to be almost 18 with no permit or anything. And the purpose of a permit is to learn and practice. I’ve driven before, for quite some distances it too, so it’s not like I don’t know how to drive completely. I’ve taken practice permit tests and passed every time, so I don’t see what the big deal is.

Another thing is my grandparents said they’d buy my first car when I graduate, which was supposed to be this year. Long story short, I won’t be able to graduate on time due to missing credits but I plan on doing some type of summer school and graduate next May, or earlier if possible. But since I’m not graduating this year, they aren’t buying me a car.

I find this completely unfair because my older sister dropped out first semester of her junior year and still got not only one, but two cars handed to her, without her having to pay or anything.

It looks like if I want a car, I’m gonna have to buy it myself, which is going to be impossible because my family also refuses for me to get a job. I’ve gotten hired at two places and they forced me to not go to the first day. They expect me to just stay home all the time to babysit my 5 yr old sister and clean the house.

Idk what to do, every time I try to talk to them about the situations, they get mad at me. I don’t want to be an 18 year old with no license, no car and no job.
