Improving elderly care centers

El

So I haven't been a caregiver very long, my experience all together sums up a little over a year.

But from what I've witnessed in the work place and in clinicals, is that I feel like a lot of these facilities have problems.

First of all caregivers and CNAs don't get paid much and are overworked so burn out is a huge issue and workers are quitting left and right.

Secondly I personally feel there should be more workers in a shift, we barely have enough time to get our work done, and unfortunately we can only fit in basic care such as changing, brushing teeth, doing their hair, and showers.

I feel like this is sad because our elder population deserves more than just the basics, most times we are so pressed for time that you gotta get them in and out as fast as possible.

I know its easy to talk about all the flaws when you aren't in an administrative position, I'm aware no one can control workers calling in and quitting. But I feel like more measures could be taken to help ensure better care for our elderly and a better work environment.

How do you feel about the topic; Do you think most facilities are run great and only a few aren't? Or do you feel that only a few are run great and most aren't?

What would your solution be to solve the problems these facilities pose? Or if you feel there are no problems could you explain why you believe that?
