Have to share. Long post.
First a bit background about me and my husband. I grew up in India studied pharmacy and Masters of Public Health from Australia moved to United States after I got married to my lovely husband. My husband was born in India but studied his bachelors, masters and phd from states.
So this happened yesterday. Me and husband were out at an event and waiting for it to start. A family sat next to us. She was expecting too just like me. We exchanged few pleasant comments and out of nowhere her husband starts talking about India. Saying that it’s really odd that We are speaking such good English despite being Indians and he was actually in shock that being an Indian woman I received such great education. He also said that How I survive when I visit my country due to its crime rate.
I mean I understand his opinions but there are also lots of positive things about India. A lot of Indians are highly educated and speak excellent English cuz English is our first language in schools. And it’s also an interesting fact that in india women literacy rate is higher than men. As far as crime rate is concerned, even I feel that it’s very high but crime rate is high everywhere. There is always a bad person anywhere we go. Be it India or any other country. I just felt really bad about his comments and I just wanted to post this because a lot of people have certain misconceptions or misunderstandings which is totally understandable but I for one feel judging everyone based on what you heard is not necessary.
Thanks for reading.
