Birthing classes?

First timer here.....Are Lamaze or birthing classes still a common thing? I never hear of any of my pregnant friends or family talking about going to one so I’m not sure if they’re still around. Only class my doctors mentioned is one I have to go to if I want an epidural.

Yes they’re still a thing but I don’t recommend them if your insurance doesn’t cover it or if your hospital doesn’t offer it for free or a very low rate. I paid 120 for mine and honestly they didn’t go over anything you can’t read online. The breathing techniques were alright but honestly when I went into labor the last thing I was thinking of was my birthing class lol.

My husband and I did a birthing class through our hospital and we loved it. We both felt so prepared and excited for childbirth. I highly recommend taking one. Our was not Lamaze...it was a combination of breathing and meditation techniques. It also went over the whole labor and delivery process.

Our hospital put on a bunch of different classes. I went to a breast feeding one and my husband went to a daddy boot camp and one on how to introduce the newborns to dogs. They had birthing classes but my doctor told me it was not necessary and to listen to and trust your own body.

We have tons here. There’s 4 different types run through our midwives’ office. I’m taking a series in June with my husband. Then there’s also multiple classes put on by the hospital/health authority.
I’d say unless you’re really well-versed in birth, or 100% wanting a medicalized birth with pain meds, it’s a good idea to take a class outside the hospital.
I’m a postpartum doula, so knowing birth and postpartum is my job, but we’re still taking a class so my husband gets to learn techniques to support me during birth and we can meet other couples due around the same time

Yes, they are very much a thing. My doctor actually required I attend one, otherwise he wouldn't catch my baby.
