Turned down for prom

Okay so basically my prom is right around the corner and I didn’t have a date and so I was just gonna invite a guy from another school that is friends with people from my school and we talk, so he was trying to be nice but I could just tell he didn’t wanna go. I’m so embarrassed and I feel so stupid about it. I don’t get what’s wrong with me or why he wouldn’t wanna go with me i said since I was inviting him I’d pay for it but he still just seemed like he didn’t wanna.
