Confused

So i’ve been on my birth control for a few months now. I just had my period and i’m now on my third day of active pills. I had sex with my boyfriend and he didn’t go in me but outside of my vagina. Is there still a possibility or is the birth control effective even after my period? Do i still need to wait the 7 days after my period or am i good since i’ve been taking it for months?
