How rare is it to be in love?

I fell in love with someone and they fell in love with me. We had an amazing long relationship together, but recently broke up. I never felt this type of pain before.
People always talk about how you can meet other people, but I’ve dated other people and never had this type of emotion before.
I feel like falling in love with someone and sharing that love together over a long period of time is a rare thing. I wonder how long in the future I will be thinking of that relationship.

You will get over it eventually if you don’t end up getting back together with them. 
I know exactly what you’re going through. It’s been about 4 years since my first love and I broke up. I loved him like no other and never thought I’d meet anyone else. Since him, I’ve dated other people and been in one other serious relationship (that didn’t work out, thank god) and now I’m with my current boyfriend and have been for about a year a half now. We live together and are excited for our future and I love him a lot. 
You will eventually move on and the pain will eventually go away. It doesn’t mean you won’t still love them, have feelings for them or think about them from time to time but you will eventually move past it and come to terms with the results.

I agree with Stacey. 
The last time I dated my first love was nearly 10 years ago. I still think about him and love him in a different kind of love. I met my now husband 1 year after my ex and I broke up and I’ve been married to him for 7 years, been together for 8. You will always remember him and feel the connection with him. But in time, it fades and you will move on and be happy.
