New Mom Petty Rant

UPDATE 2: thank you for all of the responses! It’s really good to know I wasn’t alone. I actually ended up saying something to my father in law (which I feel bad about now because he’s honestly the sweetest and the only one who probably didn’t mean anything by it lol).

But he was the one who made the Facebook comment I mentioned below. I just wrote back “I think she’s the perfect blend of both!” And speaking up that little bit did make me feel better, and is 100% true. She really does have both of us in her (at times, my family even stronger) which is why I was so bothered I think. But after speaking up politely and talking it out with my husband I do feel much better.

UPDATE: Honestly, I think I came on here for validation on being salty at my husband’s family, but a lot of you made some pretty valid points about just letting it go. I’m going to do my best to ignore the comments/my hormone fueled feelings and just enjoy my time with my little one!

My April baby came last Monday and I absolutely adore her. Her face literally changes every day, but she really is a perfect blend of my husband and I (if anything, we both agree she has a lot of my mom’s side of the family in her).

However, my husband’s family CONSTANTLY says how she looks like his side of the family in a way that kind of bugs me. Where as my family is very quick to see both sides, or say “she looks like you today” but “she actually looks like DH today now!” his family acts like I didn’t contribute at all to my daughter’s genetic code.

Comments include-

“She’s ALL [DH’s last name]”

“Is that the [DH’s last name] nose? Fingers crossed she gets it!”

On a Facebook picture and every time they see her- “Someone said she’s all Jonathan!”

(there are many more and they are constant)

Do comments like this bug anyone else? I know it’s so petty to care. I know that she clearly is a mix of us both, that in reality I honestly don’t care who she looks like because she truly is beautiful and perfect. So why does it get to me? They’ve kind of tried to shut me out in the past, so that could be why. I’d love to know I’m not the only one who gets annoyed!
