UPDATE - Unexpected birth story with plot twists 😮

Ashley • TTC #1 since 7/16 - two IUIs, two egg retrievals, two frozen embryo transfers. MMC 3/18 👼. Pregnant with our 🌈, due 4/19! 💜

I had a really great pregnancy with my rainbow baby and was looking forward to a great birth experience (aren’t we all!).

When I was 1 day before our due date (my birthday!) I went to a midwife appointment complaining of a headache that had lasted a few days. They tested my BP and it was slightly elevated so I went to the birthing center. Every test at the hospital was completely normal so they got me ready to go home.

Then the midwife said... “actually, we’d like to just go ahead and induce you.” So my SO joined me and they started cervidil.

The cervidil put me into labor right away 😮 I had early labor contractions all night of 4/16 and never needed pitocin or anything else to get the party started. My water broke on it’s own the next day and contractions got stronger. I was quickly in active labor with contractions 2-3 mins apart and I was 90% effaced super quick and the dilation quickly followed and I started pushing.

At this point, I was like “hell yeah, this is gonna be a fast one!”

But after pushing for several hours, I was at my limit. There was no space between contractions and they agreed to give me an epidural even tho I was 10cm and 100% effaced.

Once the epidural was in, I rested for an hour, then started pushing again. I pushed for a couple more hours and by now baby was getting a bit stressed out and the doctor was called in. Turns out her head wasn’t fitting through my pelvis and she was tilted a bit. We tried more pushing with the doctor literally pulling on my pubic bone but still no luck.

We moved to the vacuum. Still no luck after several tries.

So then it was c-section time. They did great and got her out despite her weird angle (soooooo much pulling and pressure). I finally saw my baby and it was the best thing ever!!

I thought the story would end there, but then I started hemorrhaging pretty badly. They had to constantly push on my uterus for over an hour. I ended up back in the OR and had 3 blood transfusions. My incision also kept bleeding when I would move and after a few days of that, they ended up putting in more stitches.

Since then, all has been good! I hope that’s the end of the “medical” part of this journey. I’ll be in the hospital for at least 2 more days (total of 6).

But the BEST part is that my sweet girl, Macy Sage is healthy and perfect in every way. Apgar scores 9 and 9 despite all we went through 💜 🌈

She is 100% worth it!!!

Thanks for reading ☺️

UPDATE: Thank you all for the love and support!!

The night before discharge, I got the worst headache ever and blood work revealed a really low red blood cell count. So instead of going home, I got two more units of blood and lots of extra monitoring. Macy was amazing (per usual) and ate and slept beautifully so that me and my SO could get the sleep we needed.

The extra blood transfusion and rest worked! We are now home with our little one!! So surreal to be here after 7 days in the hospital! Ready to start our new lives with Macy by our side 💜
