ECV with epidural? Breech baby

Can you tell me about your experiences on having the ECV procedure done to flip a breech baby if you had it done WITH an epidural? I had an ECV done last week at 37 weeks with no pain meds and it was the most painful and traumatizing experience, i had to tell the doctor i couldn’t go on anymore due to the pain. He said he will try again at 39 weeks WITH epidural and if baby dips-great. If it is unsuccessful i will go in for a c-section that day. How was your experience having an ECV with epidural? Was it painful? Or more uncomfortable?
