Vasectomy and sperm count checks...

Bri

I have seen multiple references of men getting annual semen/sperm count checks following a vasectomy. It is possible and realistic that things can heal or create an alternative path leading to pregnancy. So is it odd that the place my husband went for his vasectomy is telling us they do not do sperm counts after the initial all clear? And he would need to schedule an appt and pay at least $350 for said appt to have a consult and check? This sounds incredibly ridiculous to me- especially since I have met people who have gotten pregnant after a vasectomy (and for all the negative Nancy’s that think they know it all- it wasn’t due to cheating) and even they recommended to get the yearly checks. By not allowing patients to verify there hasn’t been any changes over time, you are also skewing those statistics of how effective vasectomies actually are. Which means this popular belief that vasectomies are 98-99% effective and it is “impossible to get pregnant after unless you get a reversal” is inaccurate, right? You can only get accurate statistics and numbers if there are follows up- which this discourages.

I guess besides my rant, my question is: how many people DO actually get annual checks after a vasectomy or am I completely wrong and it is normal to not drop off another sample yearly?
