2 day period.....need opinions

My fiancé and I have been trying for a baby and I thought I got my period but it only lasted maybe a day and a half and he thinks it’s because I’m pregnant but I took a test and it was negative. I don’t know what is going on but I have never had a short period like that before ever. Any opinions? Did I test too early ?
