Black tattoo fading?

Is it normal for a black tattoo to become grayish within 3 years? It’s definitely not black anymore. And some spots in the tattoo where my skin showed it now looks like the grayish ink has spread/blurred. Should I get it re-touched would it help or make it worse?

If it "bleeds" ink out, so that the contours aren't as sharp anymore and the intensity fades the needle was most likely too deep into the skin. You should get it touched up by them for free if you ask, but it needs at least eight weeks of healing to do it properly. At the correct depth it should stay black and sharp lined for years. (I'm a tattoo artist)

Mine are 20 yrs old, and mostly black. They’re not fading, but the edges aren’t sharp like they used to be.

You should get it touched up or completely re done. My first tattoo is mostly black and I've had it 11 years and it has hardly faded at all.
