Promise Ring...too childish?

Question

I want to give my boyfriend something for our anniversary. I was trying to come up with some ideas and I figured...why not a promise ring? We are only 20, and I don't think either of us are into the idea of engagement before we are out of college.
I just think after a year together, I want to give him something to represent my idea of our future and my commitment, y'know?
Is there a possible better idea for an anniversary gift? I'm really trying to stay away from video games or stuff like that, since I get that for him for Christmas and his Birthday anyway.

I'm 21 And my boyfriend is almost 23, last year i got us matching bands with his name ingraved on the inside of mine and my name on the inside of his rings. I didn't say it was a promise ring or anything i just told him i wanted us to have something that linked us together without a huge commitment like an engagement ring. He loves it and hasn't taken it off since the day i got them. Go for it!! ♥️

I got my boyfriend a promise necklace for our one year anniversary. He has been pretty badly burned in past relationships, so I wanted to give him something that symbolizes that I’m in this relationship for the long haul. He loved it. We aren’t quite ready to get married, mostly because of finances. So I figured that that would be a good middle step prior to us getting engaged. Especially while we figure out what we each want for ourselves professionally and educationally - which only adds to the unstable finances for the moment until we make some decisions.

We did promise necklace and bracelet.  I made them both. His bracelet was made of peracord and had a bullet  from the gun he shoots and one of the gun Ii shoot with a cross in the middle. Mine was the same but on a silver chain to make it a necklace. We are both gun enthusiast and i got the shells from a  clay pigeon shooting date we have done. He loved them. We did it because we wanted to show our commitment but due to family conflict we could not get engaged yet. So i say go for it but make sure he is ready to make that commitment first. We had already promised to each other that we would marry. We just couldn't make it public at that time.

I don’t think it’s childish. Engagements and wedding aren’t the only time that ppl can buy rings for their partner. I would check with him first though bc he may not want one for his birthday

I would say hold off on the ring just because I gave my boyfriend a ring for our either one year or two year and wish I would have waited. At that point it’s kinda tacky in my opinion because even though you two love each other a lot it’s still early on in the relationship even if it doesn’t feel like it. We did matching necklaces for our one year and loved them. It brought a sense of always being with each other no matter how far away we were which was only 20 miles😂 but it was still nice to have, so I would recommend that instead of the ring but it’s up to you girl.
