Diagnostic hysteroscopy and my journey to IVF
I had a diagnostic hysteroscopy this morning. Depending on findings dr planned to do a laparoscopy for my endometriosis to correct most scenarios. Found out both tubes are blocked plus poor semen analysis for husband with 0 morphology but high count. He’s 28 and I’m 42 TTC #1 for 3 years. So based on my age, diminished egg quality and his SA we are going straight to IVF. Doctor says uterine scarring or adhesions can definitely affect implantation so my hysteroscopy was basically a D&C, cervix, tube, ovary and uterus inspection plus HSG on camera with photos.
I’ve been on active birth control pills for 35 days now to thin my uterus lining prepping for procedure. I wore fluffy socks, sneakers and pajamas that look like loungewear and happy for comfy undies. Today after check in I got an anti nausea pill pre-op. Nurse put in the IV, took my vitals & urine for a pregnancy test, spoke to surgeon and anesthesiologist then they called DH from the waiting room to sit while the OR was prepped, and it was great DH stayed with me in a private area until they took me back for procedure. totally reduced my stress level.
After completing the hysteroscopy they did an HSG while I remained under general anesthesia. 2 hrs later I was awake with no need for laparoscopy. Afterwards as soon as I was in recovery, DH was called in for brief surgery recap. I was a bit out of it but enjoyed animal crackers and apple juice after 14 hours of not eating. DH helped me dress then nurse took me In a wheel chair to the car with bed all day. My abdomen is super distended on the left vs right where I imagine most endo scar tissue was and tramadol every 6hrs makes me feel less tender to touch. Nothing but soup, Gatorade, water. Definitely was able to walk around by this evening feeling more like cramps and bloating versus my last 2 surgeries previously where every time I took a BM or put on my shoes I felt my guts would fall out of my navel. Bleeding more like a light period so far.
Ultimately, I found my doctor and clinic HFI through the Glow app after moving to Houston. I am a licensed financial advisor, own my own life & health insurance brokerage company as well as my own travel agency so I cleared my schedule for the next 11 days until my follow up appointment by telling everyone I was going out of town for work.
