Did you make mum friends?

Question

I’m currently a sahm to two young kids. I have a few good friends from childhood and college (can count on one hand), but we all live in different cities now. I never really made good friends through work, I had a few friendly acquaintances but once the job ended, they fizzled out too. I am really struggling to make mum friends, since my first was born I went to the playgroups, meet ups, etc, but found it very difficult to get past the baby/kid talk. Also, trying to arrange to meet up with people was always difficult if schedules clashed, etc. Now my eldest is in school I find it just as hard with the school mums, they usually are quite cliquey, and it’s hard to break through the exterior of small talk. Also, Im amazed at how judgemental and bitchy some women are, tbh, I just don’t want to be around that. I think I’ve given up on mum friends at this stage, but that’s ok, I can live with that. What’s other’s experience been?

None and it’s for the best. Just my family. I have been amazed by my experience only through chatting to another mom, and they either bragged too much or compared and I grew so tired of that shit I decided it’s best to be alone and focus on me, my child and my family.

Honestly, my mom tribe is my mom, my sister-in-law, my best friend from elementary school, my best friend from college, a friend from work who is now expecting her first, and our wedding photographer. I knew all these ladies before becoming a mom and only two of them are in my town. The rest I keep up with through video chats and phone calls. Moms can be super judgemental and sometimes moving beyond the "mom talk" is hard. I am not opposed to making more mom friends here but I am not forcing it either.

I was totally unprepared for the hit that my social life would take. My friends up until motherhood were childless by choice, and just weren’t on that kid vibe.
I tried some mom groups, but had the same feelings as you. They just weren’t my thing at all. I have made lots of acquaintances through my kids’ activities and whatnot, but I can’t honestly say I have a close ride-or-die type friend. I wish it wasn’t so hard...😩

I’m the youngest of my friend group. I’m the only married one and currently TTC! They all have 2 kids one has an 18 year old. We have a good mix of girls nights and activities with the kiddos! In fact this weekend we’re going to a home watch some girl movies and make drinks(virgin for the kids!) they range from 6-18 so we have a good mix. Then I’ll just bring my baby/toddler when I go. We met at work then just became family. It just kinda happened

I have exactly the same. I have a few very good friends and was lucky enough to find a couple of mummy friends that I have a strong connection with. If I’m honest I prefer it that way. I’m a bit of an introvert and am happy in my own company. I did start to feel lonely though a little. I don’t know if this is helpful for you too but I started listening to mummy podcasts. My favourite is coffee and crumbs. They have loads of suggestions of others too. They also do events where loads of mums meet up that listen to the podcast where you can meet people that are in the same situation as you. Unfortunately living in the UK there are very few and I’m yet to find the confidence to do my own! It probably sounds silly as well but when I am listening to the podcast I feel involved too and it helps with so many questions I have. Might not be for you but thought I would put it out there xx
