What'd resources helped inform you?
If you want my whole birth story here it is, but it's long lol so you can skip to the last section for my actual questions.
So I did have no pain medication for my first but it was far from natural.
I was measuring the same at 38 weeks so I was sent for an ultrasound and baby boy was "at least 10 pounds" (he was born at 6lbs. 9 oz. 🙄) They wanted to schedule my induction, but my midwife offered a sweep that afternoon to see if we could get things naturally started before my induction the next day.
About 6 hours later my water broke at home. I showered and headed to the hospital. My water had broken "too much" and their was no fluid for baby boy anymore. His heart rate spiked and stayed about 200 as we moved around and tried different positions.
My whole medical team was on the phone with other doctors because they had only seen fetal deceleration not accelerations. A few suggestions later we decided to insert an iv through my cervix to put more fluid back into my uterus. Labour was still painful but manigable.
Within half an hour of the extra fluid I spiked a fever over 104 and babys heart rate was hovering around 190. He needed to come out immediately.
Luckily one last cervical check before rushing me to the or revealed I went from a 4 to a 10 in half an hour. He was born vaginally 15 minutes later.
We both needed to stay in the hospital a few extra days but were healthy and safe.
I'm very convinced that one thing caused the next and caused the next. This time I want to be more informed on what my options are each step of the way instead of just going with what the doctors say. I know they had the best intentions but what resources have truly helped you be more informed on what your rights are through labor and delivery? If they want to induce can you request another opinion?
