Did you worry about maybe not feeling instant connection?

I’m 40+ weeks with a baby that is very much planned and love however now that I’m due literally any day I’m nervous I won’t feel that instant love they talk about

I’ll be honest I was excited to have a baby but I was high risk and never allowed myself to connect with my baby. I thought after she was born I would have an instant connection... well shit hit the fan and my daughter is a living miracle because she should have died. I hate for saying this but I’m going to in case it helps someone else. 
When they wheeled me into the NICU 6 hours after my emergency C section and I saw my baby on a ventilator and hooked up to a million machines and was told she most likely won’t make it through the night... I completely shut my emotions off from her. I refused to touch her until she was 4 days old. 
I thought once she was in the clear the connection will be there, it wasnt. I thought after taking her home the connection would be there. But it wasn’t. My girl is 7w now and I am STILL working on building a connection and bond with her. The connection grows slowly each day. 
It’s not that I don’t love or care about her, it’s just hard to let my guard down to let her close enough to me plus fighting extreme exhaustion and dealing with an extremely colicky, and reflux baby.

Just worrying about it shows how much you love him already.  But it’s perfectly normal not to feel that. Many women report not feeling that instant connection, which makes sense, you just met!  Weather it’s sooner or later I’m sure you’ll be overcome with love for baby

I didnt have one with my last baby. She was a uterine rupture. I was under when she was born, and we were each in the icu/NICU, so we didnt see each other for some time or often. When I took her home, I didnt know her, and she didn't know me. We just kind of tolerated each other. I knew I had to take care of her, but I didnt really like her. She was just taking away from my other children. That took a few weeks to change, but it did. She is one of my favorite people in the world now!

I loved pregnancy and my daughter throughout pregnancy but when she came out my first thought was "My child looks like a raisin". I didn't cry, I was way too tired and just relieved it was over. However, the love and fierce need to protect her came very quickly and very suddenly once that after birth adrenaline kicked in.

I met the lady that wrote the What you Expect books. She said even she didn't have the instant connection. That it took a few weeks. Don't worry, you'll have it.

I was so tired after delivering my daughter I didn't have that emotional  cry bonding thing going on like they do in the movies. I just wanted to sleep. The bonding came afterwards

Took me quite a while! Babies take and take and take, but once they start “giving,” it’s amazing. That first smile, first hug, etc ❤️

I thought I’d cry when she was placed on top of me.... I didn’t and I kept thinking is something wrong with me?!? Then I passed out for a few hours because I so freaking exhausted.... once I held her after I slept I cried like a baby everyday for a few weeks when I wasn’t near her

I meant to put no. Literally the only way I can describe seeing your baby for the first time is love at first sight. Automatically you are this little oersons protector and you even tell your baby that you will never let anything happen to them it's the most empowering feeling on this planet. Like you instantly forget about all that pain because this little person was worth it and you would do it again 10 times over. It's beautiful looking at what you created for the first time honestly don't be worried. Xxxx
