He keeps coming back...why when he wanted out 🤷🏽‍♀️

Hi ladies

I hope you could shed some light on this. I was dating someone for a year and thought things were going well. Well he said he didn't want anything serious and told me if this is what I wanted he was not ready to do that. I suspect that he was seeing someone else, because all of a sudden he has a friend he claims nothing is going on . I have decided to move on, and not waste any more time as this has been a year trying my best to be a girlfriend. Since then on two or three occasions my former love has decided to text me to say hi . I don't understand if he did not want a relationship why he is now spending time chatting with me like we're friends. I am not ready to be his friend and I'm trying to process what happened . He started to get upset but clearly doesn't understand that he's hurt me and I'm trying my best to be mature and move on. Has this ever happened to anybody and I don't understand the message he's trying to send me? Very frustrating if he couldn't spend time with me, why push a friendship...I have enough male friends.
