Do you think studying with a newborn is doable?

Just got my authorization to take my NCLEX-RN exam and I am due on June 8th. I’m debating whether I should write it in July or wait a few months. I have no idea what to expect as I am a FTM. I live in Canada and am on maternity leave for a full year from my current job, so taking care of my baby and studying are what I will have to focus on. I have tons of support from my husband and our families, I just don’t know when I should schedule it.

I think you should do it sooner than later. Newborns sleep a lot and don’t require the same amount and same kind of attention as say a 6 month old. As long as you feel prepared, go for it. Good luck to you!

Take it asap. Try to do it before baby. I took mine with a 2 year old. At least with newborns they sleep a lot. I only could study while she napped or was at daycare. I graduated in April and took mine in May. I also used Kaplan to study and I strongly advise it. It was worth every penny.

As a nurse I recommend you take it ASAP. I took mine within a month of getting my state letter and passed. I also recommend a prep class as well. Both the Kaplan and Hurst are great classes and can help you focus. Plus, after it’s over, you can focus on loving that baby without the stress. Good luck!

I finished a course and wrote 3 exams when my son was a newborn. It’s doable - the hardest part for me was honestly just being away from him for the 3 hour exam, hoping he’d take the bottles I’d pumped etc. 
I’m currently planning to do the same with my second, but with my profession’s version of your RN exam, and I’m hoping I’m a lot more relaxed about it.

I’m an RN and took it when my son was 6 weeks old, I’m glad I did. There is a high correlation between waiting and failing. My advise is to take it ASAP

In the middle of my bachelors and I’ll haves 14 day window from when this semester ends and the next begins to have her (due right in the middle) and I don’t plan on missing one beat, but I’m mentally prepared. Only you knows how much you can handle, if you think you can, go for it!

Personally, I feel like up to 6 weeks is probably the easiest parenting stage and would do it.  Some people struggle more then than any other time though so it mostly depends on how you’ll handle it which is hard to know ahead of time.

How ready do you feel to test? I got my authorization to test and signed up and took the test 2 days later. Wanted to get it over with. I would try to do it now before having the baby while everything is still fresh in your head. 
If you wait till after baby, i would wait until at least 4-6 months so you aren’t sleep deprived and baby is on more of a schedule. I wouldn’t plan on being able to study much if you’ll be at home with the baby by yourself.
