Shot For Not Breastfeeding?

Please keep the comments respectful. 
I’ve chosen not to breastfeed for mental health reasons. I’m afraid if I struggle to breastfeed, that it will add unneeded stress and anxiety and I’m already at a risk for postpartum depression. I personally feel making sure I’m stable is most important for my baby girl. 
That being said...
My mom keeps bringing up asking about a shot to stop milk production. And I keep forgetting to ask my OB. However, I’ve never even heard of anything like this from anyone else. Is this even a thing?

Haven’t heard of a shot, but I have heard of taking Sudafed to help dry yourself up. And seriously, good for you for recognizing all of this before baby comes. I STRUGGLED bad with trying to breastfeed my first. Literally would feed, then pump another 20 mins, and still have to bottlefeed my baby to get her a mere ounce of my milk each time, and did this 7-8x/day. Supply never grew and it made me seriously stressed and worthless feeling. I’m going to try again this time but if it’s not happening I’m not going to extremes this time. Definitely put a damper on the newborn experience, and now I have a 3 year old that was given a ton of formula and is extremely intelligent for her age, and has always been healthy. Not worth it to stress over IMO

My best friend unintentionally dried herself up because she was taking Benadryl every day for an allergic reaction. Maybe ask your doctor? Benadryl is pretty safe.

When I had a stillbirth I asked for a shot or anything that would dry me up. But they said it was more dangerous then just to let your body take its course. It did hurt a lot but like others have said the cabbage leaves in the bra and hand expressing just a tiny bit can help a lot. It only took about a week for it to go away.

Never heard of the shot for that before, but tight sports bra can help, and hand expressing just enough to release pressure can make it a little more comfortable. Your doctor may have better recommendations though.

My mother in law is the only person that has ever mentioned this shot to me. I haven’t asked either even though I plan to formula feed from the start for the same reasons. Maybe there used to be something like that? I haven’t even bothered googling it at this point because it sounds like nonsense. My supply never really came in with my first, so I’m not super duper worried about it. If your doctor tells you anything and you remember, let me know what they say. I’m curious to know what the heck she has been going on about.

When I was in nursing school 12 years ago, we were told that this shot was no longer offered. I don't remember exactly what it was, or why it's not given anymore. Definitely ask your doctor, they'll know what you're talking about.

There are definitely options to dry up your supply. Also, not breast feeding will eventually dry up on its own but engorgment is terrible and higher risk for mastitis. No buenos. Talk to your ob tho. Aet an alarm on your phone to go off mid appointment to help u remember. 👍

Not sure if this is something you’ve been thinking about, but I dried up really quickly once I went back on birth control.
