We prefer the kind with a swinging door because stepping over a gate while carrying a child isn’t easy and neither is trying to take it down and put it back up every time.

We bought the Summer Infant Union Arch baby gate. It can stay open if you want it, but can also swing shut if you want it to close behind you. I don’t like the idea of stepping over a gate either with a baby in tow.

Mine is a swinging door with a magnet that closes behind you if you forget. We also didn't need to use screws or make any holes in the wall. It uses pressure to stay secure.
