Friend with PPD....how can I help?
UPDATE: I sent my friend a text just to see how she and her son are doing, and thankfully she opened up to me pretty quickly. I offered to bring her lunch this week, take our boys for a walk or watch her son for her while she has a nap, showers or whatever she wants. She was very appreciative. I’m hoping to gradually help her out of the house in the coming weeks or however long it takes (she has major anxiety to leave with him for the first time, which is understandable even for a new mom without PPD!)...hopefully getting out with a friend and our kids and just going to a park and getting some fresh air and sunshine can do a bit of good. I know it’s not much and it’s not going to “cure” her but it’s worth a try. Thanks for the advice ladies ❤️
Today I found out that a good friend of mine has PPD. Her son is 7 weeks old and her mom has had to take time off work to be with the baby because my friend was just sitting there with no emotion when the baby would cry. I have my own 2 kids, the youngest is 5 months, and I never experienced any PPD so I just don’t know what I can do for her. She’s getting medical help and is on meds thankfully.
Any advice on how I can help her or what I should say to her would be appreciated. I don’t want to outright ask her about it but I also don’t want to avoid the subject and act like she can’t talk about it... I found out from a family member, she didn’t tell me herself, so I don’t want her to think people are talking about her. We were once the closest friends and since I moved 3 years ago we don’t see each other as often but I definitely still consider her a close friend. I just want to help 😞 this is her rainbow baby after an ectopic and she finally conceived after 7 years because of PCOS...she wanted this baby so bad, it just breaks my heart that she’s going through this.
