Opposite’s attract ?

Can 2 people that are completely opposite have a long term relationship? Or should people just be with someone that’s just like them ?

I think it depends on if one person’s weakness is the other person’s strength in the relationship. So for example: my SO is a huge procrastinator and I like to get shit done in a timely manner so I balance that out for him as his partner. Another example: I’m bad at communicating when it comes to expressing my emotions and my partner is very open and loves to talk and helps me talk so he balances that out for me as my partner. That type of stuff.

There has to be a common ground. I’ve dated someone completely opposite of me and I hated it. Didn’t like the same food, music, activities, movies, and we didn’t have the same outlook on life at all either. 
On the other hand, I would not be able to date someone exactly like me. Not only would it be annoying, it would be so boring to never be able to really learn things about your partner or what their interested in. 
So there needs to be a good mix of same and different. For example, both my boyfriend and I don’t like religion. So, if we have kids one day we won’t argue about how to raise them in that aspect. He tends to be more logical and I tend to be a bit more emotional, so when my emotions get the best of me he’s able to bring me down to reality and when he’s having trouble justifying his feelings I’m able to help him understand that his feelings are always valid. 
So in my opinion, it’s all a balancing act.

Neither. I think complete opposites that don’t have anything at all in common would not be compatible, but those who are just alike wouldn’t have anyone to fill in with a strength when the other is weak. 
My husband and I agree on important things such as children, religion, and other beliefs. But we differ in I like to stay in while he likes to go out. I’m a saver, he’s a spender. We balance each other in those ways.
