My PCOS TTC diary (will be updated)
Background: Married on August 2017 with regular cycles and periods. I was diagnosed in May 2018 after a routine travel advice appointment with my GP (we travelled alot). The GP at the time asked me how long my cycles were and I said "31-35 days". He thought it was too long for my age (23 at the time). So scheduled me in for blood tests. Blood tests came back with 0.3 mpu over the limit for testosterone. Thus I was referred to the hospital for an internal ultrasound (the second GP said it was probably nothing but if I wanted to I could be referred). Ultrasound showed up with both ovaries with polycystic with small cysts in both. Didn't really hit me at first how I would struggle TTC. But my husband and I decided to include more walks and balance my diet out even more. At the time I wasn't working. As of July 2017, we decided to start TTC.
Lifestyle: January 2019 I started a new job, which required me to be active a lot more. I continued to make sure I had a balanced diet, ate vitamin supplements and drank enough water throughout the day. I've tried intermittent fasting, and we just finished Ramadan (month of fasting). I feel it has helped alot with my stress levels. I have also managed to lose weight and developed more healthier appetites. I have always been more of a veggie than a meat eater, but I loved my starches (potatoes etc).
Mental health: I started to suffer anxiety and depression. Pcos started to affect my mental health. I am now continuously thinking about whether I would ever have a baby. Doesn't help when extended family continuously ask me nosy questions about when I will have a baby. Pretty much everyone has someone in the family that is expecting or just had a baby. I feel like I am being pressured. Despite knowing it is none of their business.
Cycles/periods: My cycles are becoming even more irregular, now reaching 40+ days. Some cycles are 28 days, most in the 30s, but latest one is on day 50. My periods itself are normal, lasting 6 days.
Weight: My weight has changed alot. In 2017 I was a UK size 8 and a B cup. In 2018 I was a UK size 12 and a C cup. In 2019 I became a UK size 12/14 and am now a DDD cup/F cup.
Hirsutism: My body hair grows back really fast. I have developed hair under my chin, belly, chest and on sideburns. I tried hot wax, soft wax, sugar wax, trimmers, creams etc. I just gave up and only do it when I feel like it. It doesn't bother my husband, so why should it bother me. Can't do laser as my skin colour/type is unusual (not compatible with machines). I am really fair skinned for a South Asian. Plus I don't want to spend a lot on something I would need to have more sessions in.
Medication: I am not on any medications.
Treatments: I am not having any treatments at the moment.
Complications: Thankfully no other illnesses such as diabetes yet.
TTC journey: Have tried Pregnacare and Preseed. No luck yet. Not sure if I am ovulating. We are waiting to book an appointment for fertility checks. Going to collect my referral letter tomorrow from the GP(I have private healthcare). I am currently on day 50 of my cycle (although fasting may be the cause of the delay). No obvious other symptoms except for a craving for salty foods, a few spots and occasional cramps. Had a BFN a few days ago.
Really worried about our short timeframe. My husband has been offered a new employment abroad in the Middle East and we are due to move in roughly 3 months. So really want to know where we stand in regards to our fertility before we go.
I will try to keep this post updated.
