Epidural lead to spinal headache from hell 😭
So this is gonna be SUPER long so hang in there!!
My sweet Marley Anne was born 6/8/19 @9:22am via c section after 36 hours of a failed induction.
So thursday morning I had my routine NST to check on Marley. We had weekly NSTs and BPPs since 32 weeks since a growth scan relieved she was a IUGR baby. Well she ended up failing the NST so we were send for a BPP where Marley only got a 6/8. To be safe, we were sent to L&D. When we got to L&D we were monitored and found Marleys heart rate was too high, and we were going to be induced that night! It was a shocker since I was only 37 weeks, and 100% wasnt expecting to be induced, but sent home till our scheduled induction date 2 days later.
Well we started the induction thursday night(6/6/19) with cytotec, I was 0% dilated and 0% effaced. After one round and no progress, we tried 4 more rounds and only made it to .25cm dialated 🤦♀️. So now it's 6/7/19 and we have made no progress so my doctor decides to try to foley cath to stretch my cervix. Well since I was barely dilated my doctor basically had to force it through and oh my that was NOT fun😅
After a few hours with the cath in, my contractions picked up and they were SO intense I was already begging for an epidural. I had to wait for my labs to come back first because I am on blood thinners. We had to make sure they were out of my system before to avoid bleeding into my spine. The epidural SUCKED. The first try they missed and my right leg went flying causing them to punch my dura with the needle 😭 2nd epidural they ended up in a blood vessel, and 3rd only made my right side complety numb.
The bulb fell out at 4cm and we started pitocin. Unfortunately an hour in, Marleys heart rate would spike and stay elevated in the 180s. After lowering doses and flipping into a million different positions, my doc felt it would be safer to get her out via c section asap.
6/8/19 in was wheeled back to the operating room. Surprisingly my c section was super laid back. I played candy crush on my phone during it 🤷♀️ Marley came out screaming and peeing on me and I couldn't of been happier!
Marley weighed 4lbs 9oz but was 100% healthy. No nicu time THANK GOD.
Well a few hours after the c section we were in our room where we would be for the next few days. I started to get a headache and as the night went on it would only get worse. Being at its worst when i was upright and being relieved when I was laying down.
Now remember, I am on blood thinners so I couldnt just get the blood patch. I had to be off the thinners again for 24 hours. That went 24 hours of not being able to move. I couldnt feed or change Marley, and it was honestly heart breaking.
Flash forward to today, and they finally clear me for the blood patch. The procedure goes well and I am up and walking again in a few hours until the INTENSE back pain hits. Oh man, that mixed with c section pain had me screaming in pain worse then labor!
So now here I am, laying in the hospital bed day 5 and as much as my labor and delivery sucked, I couldnt be more thankful for a healthy baby. Being a iugr baby they prepare you for the worst but shes amazing! Shes 100% doing everything she needs to be and passing all her tests, shes just small! They found my placenta had stopped growing and thats probably what made her so small.
She was worth it all!!
