TW Should the exam board have included this question?

🌟

It’s currently GCSE time in the UK and pupils in year 10-11 (ages 14-16) are sitting their exams. One exam board, Edexcel, has come under fire over a question in their maths paper that is based on calorie counting. The question is:

There are 84 calories in 100g of banana. There are 87 calories in 100g of yogurt. Priti has 60g of banana & 150g of yogurt for breakfast. Work out the total number of calories.

There has been some uproar over it as it could potentially be triggering to students who suffer with disordered eating or eating disorders

• Was the Edexcel wrong to include this in the paper?

• Should they apologise for their insensitivity?

• Should students who have known eating disorders be offered extenuating circumstances/a free resit?

Note: please be sensitive of others and don’t make comments with the nature of ‘people are so sensitive these days’
