How much did your engagement ring cost?

Hey everyone, my boyfriend and I were talking about engagement rings and we were both wondering about the “average” cost. I’m personally thinking about $1500 being the average but he thinks that $500 is average. Obviously price doesn’t matter, but it would be nice to create a budget based on what he/we can afford and also the average. I know that price depends on the style and cut and even if you get it at a local or a chain jewelry store, but we were just wondering.
