Pumping and dumping??

Is this really a myth? Thoughts?

You don’t need to pump and dump. Alcohol leaves the breastmilk like it does your blood. The only reason why you would pump and dump if if you pumped while you were still intoxicated. If you are still worried it may help to know that they haven’t found any ill effects of small amounts of alcohol effecting the baby bc only two percent of that you drink actually enters the milk. Also, if your baby is older than three months the liver is able to properly process it out of their systems. They do have those test strips but they will go off for any tract amount at all. Its very stressful. It’s easier to live by the standard that if your ok to drive your ok to breastfeed. They have charts online that work as a general guideline based on how many drinks how long should you wait to help.

Don't waste your milk, save it for milk baths etc.

If you’re drinking alcohol and pump then yes you should dump it if you had a drink in the last hour or longer if it has a high alcohol content. If not then you’re probably fine and don’t need to. But you can buy alcohol test strips to use in your breast milk before you dump just to be sure. 
If I have one beer in between pumping seasons i don’t need to dump because I drink it so slowly anyway it doesn’t do anything. But if I have a margarita or more than one glass of whatever then I always have to dump.

I haven’t tried this yet but I have been reading up on it. Wait at least 2 hours before feeding if you had a glass of wine or beer. I think there are charts on the internet that seem legit on what to do if you consume high quantity and/or higher alcohol beverages. Traces of it can still be in breast milk but won’t harm baby. I personally wouldn’t be partying it up or doing a weekend brewery/winery tour if you’re exclusively breastfeeding.. it can wait, but it’s up to you.
