What should I do?

My son was diagnosed with eczema at 3 1/2 months. Now he is 5 months and he will cry and cry while scratching himself (legs are scarred and so is his neck). They put him on a steroid and told me to use aveeno eczema therapy and baby dove. I hate him using the steroid, so i don’t use it everyday (maybe 2 times a week) they keep telling me it’s fine . But I don’t think it’s okay that he scratches himself until he bleeds and he can’t sleep bc he just keep scratching!
 Please give me some advice on what to do!

I’d switch to Cetaphil for washing babe and using as a lotion. Or use Puracy. I also wouldn’t use the steroid unless you absolutely had to if those didn’t calm it down! (Btw I’d also recommend you switch to using Puracy for washing their clothes)

My son had eczema and nothing seemed to help until I got him calendula body butter for the farmers market. The ingredients are goats milk powder, coconut oil, she’s butter, calendula oil, and grape seed extract. After a few uses is eczema is completely gone. He is a little older though, 2.5 years so idk about the calendula on a tiny baby. Worth looking into though.

I wouldn’t recommend Aveeno just because I have eczema and it makes me break out worse. Do you use scented laundry soaps or anything like that? I know I can only use the All Free & Clear kind, anything else makes me itchy. Also any kind of soaps with a fragrance, I only use the original Dial bar soap.

My friend cut out all dairy and soy products and her little guys cleared up. She was nursing so her diet changed and when she switched to formula he was on prescription. You could try the above as well as what your doctor has you doing.

I had eczema so bad that I had to stop using soaps all together while it cleared up. Try something that is market directly for eczema and doesn't have any fragrance and use fragrance free laundry soaps.

Had the exact same with my first son. Hes now 3 and it hasn't gone away at all.
We too use the eczema aveeno (night balm works best for us, it's much thicker and for whatever reason works faster than the regular stuff) and the baby dove for washing. 
We use the aveeno 2 times a day, but when he waslittle, we would put it on like 4 times a day, sometimes more. As for baths,  we gave him maybe a bath a week. 
If you try to stay on top of preventing outbreaks it's easier than reacting to what's already there. 
I too only used the steroids sparingly. They told me it was fine too, but...I didnt want his body used to it. 
I would use it to get it under control,  then keep up with the other two. 
We tried other creams and aquaphor and all that..and nothing has worked as well as the aveeno nightime balm..even though its $17...I just try to keep an eye out for sales and stock up.because I know well use it.

My neice had eczema really bad i mean hands feet arms private areas and even her hair we had to tape socks to her Hands to stop her from scratching til she bleeds.. and my  neice Mother did not want to so any home remedies at furst this was her first child so she wanted to do everything by the book the steroids they had her on made her teeth rot and she was Hella fat and strong as hell but she dropped the roids andstarted doing oatmeal baths and staying lotion up and using my mom's remedy and it's gone (no matter what your choose please just make sure it is in you baby's best interest the roids may make them go away but other things may happen home remedies may take a while to make it go completely away but they work

Avoid fragrances and perfumes with everything. I was born with eczema and still will flare up if I use a wrong product. I would use the steroid as that’s one of the only things that cleared up a really bad flare up for myself, but that’s obviously your choice. You could try Vaseline lotion - it’s in yellow bottle and leave baby oily. It immediately soaks into the skin and moisturizes really well.

Have you tried cutting dairy out of your diet if breastfeeding and/or switching formulas to one without dairy? It’s super common for eczema to be caused by lactose intolerance.
