GoFundMe when is it ok and when is it not?

I want to hear opinions on GoFundMe. Obviously we have all heard of the stories where GoFundMe has done a lot of good like help a grieving family pay for funeral cost, or help pay for medical cost to save someone’s life.

But there are also a lot of scammers on there as well making up fake stories to get money from sympathetic people. Or I have even seen people asking for money so they can go on a vacation.

A few years ago my husband received a text from a friend with a link to their GoFundMe about helping them buy a home since they didn’t make enough money to buy a home of their own. (This friend lives with their parents)

When is it ok to make a GoFundMe and when is it not?

Do you think the scammers and people asking for money for things they don’t need but want ruin it for the people who desperately need help?
