Is it true that if someone is on medication for herpes it isn’t transmitted during unprotected sex?

Ive heard this and it just came up in convo w my friend and I’m wondering how it works?

It’s tricky. During an out break is when it is transmitted but there are cases when it’s transmitted without it. My husband has it and I don’t, we have unprotected sex all the time unless he has a break out.

Oh no, you can still pass it, if the person is having an outbreak! The medication doesn't "cure" it or stop our breaks, it just makes the outbreaks less often and a shorter healing process. The medication doesn't make it not passable. You can still pass it if an outbreak is occurring. And side note, woman can have what's call and "internal outbreak" which means the sores are on the inside and is almost often passed as something else.

It can reduce the likelihood of transmission, but it's definitely not full protection. I know someone who got it while partner was taking medication.
