No, I won't ask you if you're having kids. Or if you're having another after your baby grows up.

I don't have any intention of asking if you've always wanted kids.

Or if your mom or mother-in-law is begging you for grandchildren.

Because, sadly, I know better.

I've been there for the doctors appointments.

And the false positives.

I've been in the ER with nurses telling me there's nothing to be done and going home to plan what to tell my family. What to tell myself.

I've been there.

So we'll talk about something else.

Where you plan to live, or what you dreamed of being when you grew up.

Please don't be offended, dear co-worker, if that's what you wanted to talk about. Because trust me, I know someone out there does.

But, no, I just can't ask you if you're having kids.

Because someone, somewhere has been asked that question a million times.

And they can't.
