It’s a girl!!

So I had a pretty traumatic birth story. Yesterday 7/18 I went in for an induction at 39+0 at 8am due to baby being breech and having a successful ECV last Monday.

I was given a cytotec pill upon arrival to thin out my cervix as I was 1cm and 50% effaced. Surprisingly it worked well and I was contracting within 4 hours. I was then started on Pitocin and dilated to 2cm on the lowest dose so things were looking promising. I stayed on the ball for awhile and walked a little. The doctor checked me a few hours later and I wasn’t dilating anymore so he broke my water.

Contractions got really intense after that and I had to get an epidural. They couldn’t get it right and had to do it twice. It was uncomfortable but not super painful. Within an hour I was dilated to 4cm due to increased Pitocin and then another hour later I was 7cm. It was looking great!

Then baby’s heart started to drop with each contraction. The nurse would rush in and turn me from side to side with an oxygen mask. Baby even flatlined at one point. It was terrifying. Labor had been going on for 17 hours at this point. They decided to stop the Pitocin and give the baby a break. I was still contracting but not making progress so I stayed at 7cm for awhile. They decided baby might be okay to try Pitocin again and started it back up, starting from the lowest dose. Baby reacted nicely for an hour or so, then the heart rate dropped again. I was 9cm at this point. They took me off Pitocin to see if I could get to 10cm on my own. It didn’t work. Baby flatlined again.

They decided to take me for an emergency c section, and by this point I had been laboring for 21 hours. I was so tired and nauseated that I wanted to rip myself off the bed and go home.

I was team green and they pulled baby out and yelled “it’s a girl!” And I’m now the happiest gal in the world.

Connor Olivia arrived on 7/19/19 at 5:19am weighing 5lbs 13oz and 21 inches long. We’re so in love!
