Did your baby receive the vitamin k shot

I am considering asking them to run a check on her vitamin k levels before they just willy nilly give her the shot. Curious on others experiences and what you did and why ❤️

I gave my first the shot and will give this baby the shot too. It’s just a vitamin, and it could potentially keep them from bleeding out (like brain bleed) so the benefits way outweight the almost nonexistent risk. Never heard of anyone with a poor reaction to it and it’s .2 seconds of pain. Babies will get poked several times the first couple weeks with all the testing regardless.

Post-partum nurse here... vitamin K shot greatly reduces the risk of deadly brain bleeds in newborns. Declining the shot or waiting to get the shot puts your baby at risk for brain hemorrhage. Often times by the time a brain bleed is noticed, it’s too late and the baby will either die or have severe disabilities.

They won’t check, it’s a precautionary shot but my son was born via c section so the need for the shot were much fewer AND I didn’t want him to have a shot right after birth. A couple of days later they did tell me that it was required in order for him to have his c section so I did get it then. I was upset but I’m still glad I waited

The vitamin K is for the blood because babies run the risk of bleeding.. it's not just a level that they run.
