Yay hormones!
We live in the country, surrounded by corn fields. I put out bird seed and sunflower seeds and it feeds the birds, squirrels, rabbits, mice, opossums, and some raccoons. One big one found that standing on the railing of our porch allowed her to raid the bird feeder if I failed to put out seed at night. She would bring her friends along when I did put out seed. Tonight I heard the feeder banging and peeked out expecting to see her. Instead there was a baby, trying hard to hang on the post and get to the seed. On the floor of my porch was another little one. I had some extra sunflower seeds that didn't fit in my outside storage so I opened the door and put out seed for them. I called out that I was sorry to scare them but there was some food. Sure enough a few minutes after I went back in mama and the 2 babies came back. One climbed up on the railing and then seemed to be afraid of getting back down. As I was watching mama eat despite the little ones crying I felt like running out there to save him. I kept thinking "mama help that poor baby!! Its scared!" And then I watched it jump down to join the feast having decided that food was more important than being scared to get down
. I laughed as I remembered mama Raccoon new best how to handle her babies and I patted my belly as I said "I can't wait to teach you about overcoming your fears and also caring for our wildlife!" And then I cried. Yay hormones!! Picture of mama and one baby because they are too cute!!
