When can i put lotion on new born?

I have baby lotion. He has spots like his hands that seem very dry. And his face. When am I able to put lotion on him? His body and face? Google won't answer my question lol
My newborn is 2 weeks old.

My Dr recommend coconut oil as it's so natural it shouldn't harm baby.
I'd avoid the face as much as possible till baby's a bit older but otherwise it should be fine to use every couple of days.
Just make sure to wash baby every couple of days to avoid build up and blocked pores.

The nurses told me only bathe him once or twice a week because he’s skin can become dry. But I used to try to put lotion on my son a few times a week. He wasn’t born with vernix (however it’s spelled, but the white stuff) so his skin was very dry and peeling.

I wouldn’t put it on his face, but you should definitely be putting it on his body after he bathes.
