Introducing newborn to my cats
I am so nervous for my 2 cats to meet my newborn! They both have very different personalities. One is 4 and is a little jumpy and skittish. The other is only 1 and is extremely curious. Neither of them has met a baby. However the older one met my nephew (age 2) and it did not go super well. He tried to lash out but got me instead (thank goodness) but in my cats defense, he felt very trapped because I was holding him. Also there is a big difference between a newborn and a 2 year old. My nephew is now 5 and neither of my cats has a problem with him. My younger cat loves to play with him and the older just hides in my room, but will let my nephew pet him if he comes is gentle. I will say I am very lucky to have a nice, spacious finished-basement that we rarely use but the cats love. So if I think it necessary, I can put them down there with food, water and a litter box. I mean, I'm not asking for them to be best friends, but I want them to accept this new addition into our family and house. Any advice??
