Straight to IVF, no IUI

Has anyone went straight to IVF without attempting IUI?

A little background info:

We were originally referred to an RE under the impression we’d do IUI since my OB kept saying due to my significant other’s first semen analysis which showed low motility and low count that IUI would help us conceive. However, after doing a repeat semen analysis his numbers improved greatly and we still weren’t getting pregnant so they repeated a lot of blood work that I originally did with my OB to make sure it was accurate.

Well, I just left my reproductive endocrinologist and learned that we have a 6-10% chance of conceiving through IUI so it’s best to skip it and go straight to IVF, where we have a 60-90% chance of conceiving. I’m actually quite shocked especially from learning I am being diagnosed with hypothyroidism and low ovarian function after being told a year ago my thyroid was fine and a few months ago my ovarian function was completely normal when it was tested at my OB’s office.

I’m just trying to wrap my head around this news but just wanted to see if anyone has jumped right to IVF without trying IUI.
