Period with IUD?

I have had my Mirena IUD for two years now and I still have periods. 🙄🙄 Anyone here still have their period after having their IUD for a while? Does it mean it is ineffective? The way I see it: if you have a period there’s a chance to get preggo.

Whether you have a period or not with an iud the chance of pregnancy is the same. Iuds do not stop ovulation. I have Mirena and I don't have periods on it but I still ovulate sometimes. It doesn't mean the IUD is any less effective though. It's still the most effective birth control

To add onto Kayla’s comment, mirena and liletta have been reported to stop periods in 20% of users. That’s means the majority of us will still have periods, but they’ll most likely be light anyway. Some people spot once every few months and that’s their “period”. I’ve heard a lot of others on this app say they’ve stopped having periods in the first year, so it may be more than the reported 20%, who knows. Everyone’s different though. My periods are still coming and I’m entering month 8. I didn’t have super high hopes that I’d lose my period though cause I naturally have a heavy flow. I’ll take my iud periods over my natural period any day though.

So I had my Mirena for a full 5 years before I had my son and I still had regular periods with it. However, I got the Mirena again after I had my son, it’s been 3 years now and just in the past year I’ve noticed my periods have gotten a lot lighter and shorter. It really just depends on your body.

I was told by my doctor and read on my own about my IUD it Releases a Female hormone that can cause changes in your cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus. 
I was also told by my doctor that my period may not completely stopped, but I will notice that my periods are a lot shorter and getting less heavy my periods have slowly gotten light and Short. But I do experience all the cramping and backaches and Acne breakouts.
