Told not to check my strings?

Question

My gyno told me not to bother checking my strings because they will get curled up over my cervix. Has anyone else’s doctor told them this? How will I know if it’s in correctly?

I was told to just check them once after your period in case your IUD came out with a tampon. You're usually fine without checking but it doesn't hurt to check once in a while. You would know if it changed from its intended position because you would have very very intense cramping (similar to when it was put in)

I was told the same thing & often times the strings are cut so short you wouldn’t be able to feel them anyway. I never checked & was fine a year later at my annual. 🤷🏼‍♀️

My doctor has always reminded me when I have gone for yearly exams to check for strings. 
When I check for them, I can always tell I found them because it’s prickly. Almost like the bristles on a toothbrush.
