I'm pretty sure the whole of life is based around pleasure and pain, not just religion. Either obtaining it or avoiding it.

Since I saw you clarify in response to someone else...
While in christianity you find a significant amount of references to rewards and punishment, the central focus is not human feeling in the way that you might think: if I believe in God I'll have a fantastic life; if I don't I'll be miserable. The central focus is the glory of God. Whether an individual suffers or rejoices, it is for the glory of God and He works both good and "bad" to His purpose. The Apostle Paul references enduring pain and discomfort in the name of faith many times. Enduring much for the sake of the gospel. Yet, there is an undeniable qualification... he speaks of enduring it all with joy. Why? Because he finds joy in God.
I'm a Christian hedonist. That means that I believe that while the chief end of man is to glorify God, He is most glorified in Christians when we are most satisfied in Him. When we find our utmost joy in Him. So I can live a life where I sacrifice my old desires and wants, because I treasure something else more. Even when that old self is warring with the new me every day. 
While it's easy to contrive that philosophies that contain a focus on human feelings are naive or simple, keep in mind two things. 
One, that ALL of us are seeking our happiness every minute of every day. None of us are truly self sacrificing. We work because we get a monetary reward or build our reputation (ego). We give because giving gives us some kind of reward (pleasure, gratitude from others, etc). We do what we do--even if we don't really enjoy the act--because we believe if we do x, y, or z that the outcome will be worth it.
Second, that the promises of pleasure in Christianity are secondary. God will be glorified whether I live a pleasurable life or a miserable one. He can bless a man like King David and curse one like the Pharoah of the plagues in Exodus, and both are for His glory.

I think there are elements related to truth, ignorance, perception, empathy, compassion, seeing, awareness, non reactivity, morality, ethics, intentions, actions, conditions, genetics, oneness, individuality, relations, existence, peak experience, synchronicity, neutrality, ritual, bringing life to meaning/bringing meaning to life...I could probably go on lol.
