Fake cough?

Question

Does anyone else’s baby cough when they’re protesting or crying? It’s so weird he’s just started doing it the past few days and I’m trying to decipher if it’s a new thing or if he’s getting sick but he doesn’t have a fever or any other signs of illness. He’s also just started leap 5 so I’m wondering if it’s that?

Yes! My daughter will fake cough All.  The. Time.  It’s always when I’m playing with my son so I know it’s for attention. If I pretend to cough back at her she gets a huge smile and pretends to cough again then awaits my response. I can always tell when it’s fake vs real. When it’s fake she will open her mouth super wide, stick her tongue out, look at me square in the eyes, and cough.

Yes our son just started to do this too! At first it was a cough or two now he will do it for a little while to show he dislikes what’s going on or wants to be picked up etc! Our son is so bad at the fake cough it’s hilarious!

My daughter fake coughs allllll the time but it’s when she’s excited,  not upset.

Like, only when he’s starting to fuss/cry? If so my baby has done that since birth 😂 he coughs a few times and then starts crying

I have read that it’s a thing - they learn it gets your intention. Obviously see if it happens often but if it’s only at certain times it could be for attention.

Yes! Mine did this a few weeks ago.. every time I put him down for a nap he would fake cough for 5 minutes 😂 if you fake cough back you’ll probably get some big smiles! It was just a phase for my little one

I thought my son started this but actually he had the flu. He did it for a week... no other symptoms and sounded fake as hell before he wound up in hospital.
Probably a minority though.

My LO fake coughs to get daddy’s attention.  Daddy will be on the other side of the couch on his phone and she will look right at him and fake cough then when she gets his attention she stops and gives him a big smile.  😂 she only does it with him.

My doctor said it’s due to excess saliva that they get now since they teeth/start solids
