Do you really have to wait 3 weeks to introduce a bottle when breastfeeding ??

Im getting induced Friday, and this is something I was told in a breastfeeding class that I’ve been thinking about, I think it would be way easier to pull out a bottle at drs. appointments & when visiting family than finding a place to breastfeed. I was told bc the bottle is easier for them to drink from they may not take the boob anymore? How long did you guys wait?

I did. You don’t *have* to do anything but the recommendation is there to avoid nipple confusion. You do what you need to do or what you want with your child.

We introduced a bottle the day we came home from the hospital, she was 2 days old. She gets a bottle every night before bed, but nurses all day. We’ve never had any trouble with nipple confusion. She actually prefers the breast, but will accept a bottle.

It also has to do with that baby tend to clusterfeed alot in the beginning, and pumping on top of that may give you an oversupply (absolutely no fun) in terms of nipple confusion, it's really more nipple preference, as it's way easier to drink from a bottle than breast, do pace feeding is important;

My daughter never took a bottle. I used the two shirt method instead of a nursing cover and just nursed wherever.

I had my partner offer a bottle at about a week. I wanted him and others to be able to feed our daughter too. It never negatively affected our breastfeeding. Being out an about it was always easier to nurse. It was very helpful at drs appts- especially after shots- nursing calmed her down right away. And technically you can nurse wherever you are comfortable. Bringing bottles was a little harder for me bc if baby likes them warm them you’ve gotta bring a bottle warmer, find outlets,  or find other ways to heat it up. Honestly though - just find what works best for you and your family 💕 it’ll be ok- you’ve got this 😊

Mine got a pumped bottle the day we got home (3days) and never had an issue she went back and forth with ease and took any bottle unlike a lot of the babies that I’ve seen wait.. she also had a pacifier in the hospital and it changed nothing about breastfeeding for us

My baby is 3 weeks tomorrow... I won’t be introducing bottles until 4 weeks as that’s what was recommended by the medical professionals I’ve spoken to.
