Husband and In-Laws - Help
Does anyone here have advice regarding coping with a husband who seems far more worried about not letting his parents down and not disappointing them, than his wife? It often seems like it’s me against them (husband inclusive) when I feel like my husband and I should be more of a united front. My husband literally can’t even tell them that we need to leave by a certain time when we visit their place on a Sunday evening, despite my countless efforts to tell him that it frustrates me when we go there and don’t know what time we’re going to be able to leave. And don’t even get me started about trying to navigate the minefield that is, their expectation when it comes to holidays and ‘special occasions’😖 Help!!!!
Update: went to his parents place for a birthday dinner today. Had asked my husband earlier in the week what time they were planning to eat, of course he never asked them. So we arrive there today at 2.15 pm to be told dinner would be at 5. I was hoping we could leave by 6.30 so at 6.45, I asked if we could leave shortly (he knows that this scenario drives me absolutely insane and knows how much I hate getting home late sunday evening), and he was like let’s stick around awhile. I shook my head to display my disappointment and he’s like, “oh you’re pissed now, whatever”. Even after this, he displayed no sense of urgency whatsoever. Eventually at 7.30 I said, “it’s getting late; we need to go home”. Left at 7.45 pm and had a 40 minute drive home. This has been an issue from the beginning of our relationship. All I ask is that we don’t stay there late Sunday evenings and literally get home and have to go straight to bed ( we both get up really early for work). My husband is incapable of getting on my side regarding this matter and it worries me that if he can’t support this seemingly simple request, getting him on my side regarding anything considerably major is going to be impossible. It’s so frustrating😩
