HCG rest - non viable pregnancy - missed miscarriage

Jayne

Hi guys,

Do you know how soon after a Fetal heart beat stops (or possibly never started to behind with) / missed miscarriage - that HCG on home pregnancy test drops?

I had first ultrasound on Wednesday. Suspected to be approx 6.5 weeks. Sonographer said “It” (didn’t clarify if it was fetus or sac they were measuring) measured 11mm and there was no heart beat - which the sonographer said means not viable.

My GP was dubious about the result so requested I repeat ultrasound 5 days later (Monday). After research, I have chosen to delay the ultrasound until 8 days later (Thursday) to give the HR time to start and/or significant enough time to show measuring change.

Following my ultrasound on Wednesday I took a home pregnancy test (on left). Today (4 days later) I’ve taken another and the line is still very strong, possibly stronger (on right).

If the pregnancy is nonviable, would 4 days be long enough that I should be expecting to see the line being fainter?

Unfortunately my usual Obstetrician is on holidays and my GP is not experienced in miscarriage so didn’t order me a HCG blood test. I will request one as soon as possible.

Thanks
